Meet David Schuster, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked in the mental health and SUD treatment since 2015. After completing his Masters program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, David gained experience as a therapist and case manager in Assertive Community Treatment, Outpatient Therapy, as well as within the Criminal Justice System. Through his career roles David gained a wealth of knowledge in addiction recovery, diversity working with inclusive backgrounds and he has developed an understanding regarding paths that lead to SUD and mental health imbalances.
As a therapist, David’s role specializes in facilitating group therapy, individual as well as family therapy sessions, developing treatment plans and authenticating program documentation. He looks forward to supporting individuals as well as their families, including preparing clients for life after the program. Ensuring that clients leave Epiphany Wellness with powerful tools to sustain long-term sobriety.
David contributes to our company’s mission and goals by bringing a versatile therapeutic style to the clinical team. He is direct, assertive and goal-driven, yet also empathetic, compassionate and works at the client’s pace of comfortability. David primarily utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy techniques that explore beneficial and insightful connections between one’s thoughts, feelings and behaviors. In addition, incorporating themes from acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and motivational interviewing. David believes strongly in self-determination which allows clients to make their own choices and decisions as well as assisting to develop an individualized recovery plan.
As a clinical professional, David feels it’s an honor to encourage clients at their lowest point of life and be a part of their support system. Witnessing clients gain stability and independence, regain confidence and embrace profound identity, as well as repair past relationships while developing new ones. Supporting clients to learn new strategies and techniques to overcome the challenges that they have experienced is what makes a career in Addiction Recovery incredibly rewarding for David.
David’s hobbies and interests include hiking, traveling, and art. If he is not outside, David is often watching a Brewers, Packers or Bucks sports game. David is very family-centered and enjoys spending quality time with his wife and 2 boys.
